The Browns Are 0-12…. In the ANY/A Battle, too

You know the Browns are 0-12, and you know that the Browns are not very good at passing or stopping the pass.  Cleveland is 31st in the league in Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt (ahead of only the Texans), and 31st in the league in Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt allowed (ahead of only the Colts).

But did you know that Cleveland has had the worse ANY/A in every game this season? Take a look at the ANY/A for Cleveland’s offense (in brown) and defense (in orange) from each game this year:

Cleveland is the only team that has yet to win the ANY/A battle in at least two games this year. Here are the full standings:

No team has played at least 10 games and lost the ANY/A battle in each one. [1]The 1982 Colts did pull off this feat in a strike-shortened 9-game schedule.

Three teams have gone 1-15 in the ANY/A battle: the 2005 49ers, 2014 Jaguars, and 2014 Raiders. In ’05, the 49ers (behind Tim Rattay) had a 9.15 ANY/A in week 1, and allowed just 5.02 ANY/A to the Rams. San Francisco proceeded to lose the ANY/A battle every week the rest of the season, and finished as one of the worst 4-12 teams ever (ranking last in both yards and yards allowed).

The 2014 Jaguars, during Blake Bortles‘ rookie season, were really bad. The only win came against the Browns in week 7, when Jacksonville eeked out an ANY/A win, 4.58 to 4.48. Derek Carr‘s rookie season was pretty similar, although the Raiders one ANY/A win came in definitive fashion, 8.45 to 3.97 against the 49ers.
