Seems like CotY usually goes to the coach whose team didn’t wind up sucking nearly as much as it seemed like they would, so I’d go with the two guys who seem to have the strongest regression tailwinds propelling them forward. I’d go with Ron Rivera, whose franchise QB and entire team are both much better than their national reputation. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Carolina was 11-5 or 12-4 this year, and I think either mark would be enough to secure it for Rivera. As my second choice, I’d select Jim Schwartz, whose team underperformed expectations the most last season and could easily see a strong rebound (a la the 2012 Minnesota Vikings). If the Lions win the NFC North, I think Schwartz is a shoo-in.
