I just remembered seeing him on football cards, and then I remember Kosar was their QB. I was surprised to see that Sipe played so well in his last game and wondered how/why his career ended. Then I went to wikipedia and was reminded that he went to the USFL in 1984. (I wish PFR would make some sort of notation for USFL or WFL participation.)

Sipe is one of only three players to pass for 3,500+ yards in his final NFL season. The others being Kurt Warner and Roger Staubach.
