How good a coach is Jim Harbaugh?

He takes over a bad Michigan team, and immediately takes them to #12 his first year. Now competing for #1.

He takes over a mediocre 49ers team and immediately wins 10+ games for 3 straight years. (After 8 straight non-winning seasons for SF.)

At Stanford, he "struggled". He took over a 1-10 team, they were winners in his 3rd season and national contenders in his 4th.

Before that, he coached at University of San Diego. The team was 8-2 before he got there, and mostly mediocore the decade before. He went 11-1 in his 2nd and 3rd seasons there. The school previously only had one 1-loss season, and never won more than 9 games.
