Brees is some 35 victories short of Brady, given the same number of games of 21+ points produced. Those are the two extremes of having the ultimate support of defense plus kicker and lack thereof. Brady will end up having two future hall of game kickers during his career, whereas Brees will end up with a myriad of kickers who have bounced around the league or didn't have much of a career at all. And Brees is currently riding shotgun with arguably the worst defense in the NFL for the 3rd time in just the past 4 seasons. Add in years 2007 and 2008 when it was much the same, and there you have it.

Just yesterday you saw Brady struggling mightily to move the ball down the field, and his defense came through for him yet again with a sack fumble for a touchdown.

Presumably, this is because it was known that he was going to spend 5 years in the Navy before playing football. It didn't have anything to do with lack of confidence in his ability to play in the NFL.

After all, he won a Heisman trophy.
