And Pete Carroll gets no credit for his college success here, too. I think that’s probably the right call given examples such as Petrino and Saban where college success didn’t translate, but it’s possible there was some useful information in his USC tenure.

My perception is that second-chance guys sometimes do better the second time around, but looks like maybe that’s wrong.

I am not surprised to learn that previous coaches fare better than non-head coaches. I don’t think that the main skills that make somebody a head coach are all that closely related to the skills that make them a good coordinator.
