While nobody will confuse Kirk Cousins with Peyton Manning, his skill set is very similar to that of Kurt Warner. He understands the playbook, the plays, and the personnel and is aggressive. Over the past two years, he has learned how to sequence plays, manage risk, and keep the chains moving.

I was never high on Jay Gruden as a head coach, and you can tell lesser QBs would have failed. The Redskins are not loaded with talent and their management structure will always prevent that. Last season, he had no consistent running game, so bad in fact that they pulled a guy off the street to just crash into the line to keep the defense honest, a mediocre line, an elite pass catching TE, a contemporary unique deep threat that does little else when healthy, a good team possession guy that does it all, and an emerging speedy slot guy who could develop into an Antonio Brown type, and some useful fits and pieces like Vernon Davis.

The Redskins kept the TEs, but lost Jackson and Garcon. It will be interesting if Doctson and Crowder can fill those roles, and how Pryor fits in. Either way, Cousins could crap the bed and still get paid by SF or LA.

My only issue is the notion of Cousins being very good in 2016. He had very good looking stats, but I don't think you could watch his games and come away with the same conclusion. My wife has the unfortunate burden of being a Washington fan, so I have the lovely treat of watching all 16 of their games, every year, probably till I die. Cousins was, in my eyes, an average-to-slightly-above-average quarterback with a solid offensive line, insanely talented receiving corps, and friendly scheme that featured wide open receivers quite often. In a way, you could call him a poor man's Matt Ryan last year.
