Assuming the Jets get the 8th pick in the 2nd round (40th overall) and a 10% discount rate, the Jets three second round picks are worth 31.4 points on my draft calculator.

The 2nd pick in the 2019 draft, assuming a 10% discount, is worth 30.2 points.

So yeah, the Jets didn't send a future first, but they might as well have. They sent the equivalent of a future top-3 pick!

If you use the Jimmy Johnson draft calculator (http://www.footballperspective.com/jimmy-johnson-draft-pick-value-calculator/), the three picks are worth 1,390 points (again using the 10% discount rate). The 7th pick in the draft is worth 1500 points, or 1,350 points with a 10% discount.

So the Jets three second round picks are worth somewhere north of the 2019 2nd overall pick or the 2019 7th overall pick.

I essentially wrote the same thing on a couple of fan boards and have been vilified.

This trade was done because Mike Maccagnan signed Josh McCown in 2017, ruining the tank. Had he gone with Bryce Petty and the Jets gone 2-14 instead of 5-11 this trade would not be necessary.
A number of Jets fans seem to think its better to go 5-11 (which is miserable) than 2-14. To me, both are a failed season, but teh 2-14 can let you get a franchise QB.

The Jets have much chance of rebuilding if they are throwing away three 2nd round picks.
