No matter how much time you have the ball you can only achieve one more possesion than your opponent (ignoring muffed punts and other special teams foolery). Now a big lead in TOP will certainly correlate well with winning, but thats because if you are winning TOP it’s because you are a good team, that can sustain drives on offense and get off the field on defense.

The whole “keeping Brady on the bench” is mostly hogwash – he’ll be on the field almost as many times as your own QB!

(Taking long time in everything you do will slow down the game and keep it at a low number of possesions. This will raise the variance of the game giving an inferior team a better chance of winning, so there is that.)
