Penn State is kind of unique, because they promoted themselves as having "success with honor", and the head coach was considered a beacon of integrity. I think there's a good reason the scandal happened at PSU, and I'm struggling to think of another D1 school which had a painted mural which included a defensive coordinator. Culture definitely played a role in the scandal and coverup.

Now that Penn State appears to be on the road back, we hope the lessens have been learned by everyone. If not, the exact same thing could happen again.

Disagree with this entire post. If this isn't a lack of institutional control then I don't know what is. PSU should get hammered. Just because this could happen anywhere isn't a valid argument. It happened at PSU and it was exposed. Paterno lied until the day he died. Tear down his statue and program. To argue that this wasn't a football issue is insane. Paterno didn't rat out Sandusky and seek help b/c he helped Paterno win. Meanwhile, others didn't act b/c Paterno held so much power over the institution as his football program kept winning.
