Webster played for fairly high scoring teams. In his best 10-year AV stretch (76-85), the Steelers ranked 5, 7, 5, 1, 10, 8, 8, 14, 8, and 9 in points.

Dawson played for some pretty bad offenses, with his top ten stretch (89-98) ranking 24, 20, 17, 15, 13, 16, 5, 11, 7, and 28.

Nicks, on the other hands, got his best AV years with the Saints. His TB years combined don’t match his AV form his worst year in the Big Easy. His teams ranked 1, 1, 11, 2, 13, and 30.

If an OL plays for a high scoring team, he is a little overrated by AV (in my opinion). For instance, John Sullivan played great in 2012, but the Vikings only ranked 14th in points scored. Zach Strief played okay in 2012 and even missed 4 games, but the Saints ranked 3rd in points. Strief also gets the 1.2 multiplier for being a tackle. Sullivan’s AV was 8, while Strief’s was 7.

If you want to throw another lineman from 2012 in there, Dan Connolly had an AV of 10, mostly because the Pats led the league in scoring. I wouldn’t argue that he outplayed Sullivan, and I am pretty sure PFF rated him pretty high too.

That is just my theory on why results for linemen may look funny.
