The running back thing is kind of crazy. The Chargers made that trade to move up to get an RB, no less. That and the Gurley pick are just so, so bad. Any time someone says that if you can get Adrian Peterson there, you take him, well... you don't usually get Adrian Peterson. Sometimes you get Ryan Mathews, or Trent Richardson, or (gasp) Laurence Maroney. If you get AP, it's worth doing. Barely. And I think Mel Kiper is right that you should question even that. But man do you have to be overconfident to think you know a guy is AP-level good given all the misses.

Interesting stuff on the safeties, too. At least one team swims against the current on that one. The Patriots can't get enough of these high-character safeties with middle- to late-round grades. Tavon Wilson, Duron Harmon, now Jordan Richards. Not clear that the Patriots are somehow smarter with this stuff.

If you factor in a enrage length of career by position, it will help explain the reasoning for increased need to draft RBs. (Also WRs, as the second shortest shelf life) This also explains why most teams prefer to take positions other than RB high in the draft, as you get more years of use out of these positions.
